Hungary Rail Pass

Hungary rail passes are a great European travel choice for the adventurous tourist

When tourists begin planning a European vacation they more often then not examine the pros and cons of train travel. Buying a rail pass as a vacation ticket brings a wealth of opportunity in terms of flexibility, transportation and of course, enjoyment. Europe is a sought after vacationland to many travelers and Hungary in particular tends to get a pretty high volume of visitors. Hungary rail passes can be bought from a variety of retailers, both on and off line (although Eurail is the most popular), and they allow the adventurous traveler to experience the countryside in whichever way they please.

Budapest is the most frequently visited ‘hotspot’ so to speak in Hungary. Most Hungary rail pass owners visit Budapest because of its rich history, its pristine landscaping and its long list of popular sights. Budapest was founded in 89 AD and has since grown into a burgeoning city of over 1.5 million residents. It is well known for its seven islands which comprise of its basic make up and the city boasts sites such as Statue Park, Great Market Hall and the Buda Castle.

All of these features make Hungary rail passes one of the most exciting passes a traveler can get their hands on and with a Hungarian Flexi pass they can see it all for a low price. The Flexi pass is a Eurail special that allows travelers to use five days worth of unlimited travel in the Hungarian region (all first class) and they have a fifteen day window to use it. These five days can be split up any way you want, whether you want to travel for five consecutive days or if you want to travel two now and three later, or any other ways you’d like to divvy up your time.

With a Hungary rail pass, Hungarian travel isn’t all you will be restricted to. While Hungary is a popular location for travelers, many European rail pass owners enjoy using their vacation time to see a wide selection of countries and with a Hungary rail pass you’ll be able to do the same. Don’t let the name fool you, a Hungary rail pass allows you to go to European countries such as France, Germany and Austria (17 countries in all!). Depending on the length of your vacation you can visit as many countries as you would like. Just hop on a Eurail train and off you go to wherever you please.

Discounts are one of the most appealing aspects of a Hungary rail pass as well. Discounts are given in a number of ways, with age being one of the biggest determinants. Here is a breakdown of how discounts may be calculated in your particular case:

•    If you are under 26 years old you will qualify for a Youth Pass, which cuts a significant amount off of the Standard priced ticket, depending on which cities you are going to.
•    If you are traveling in a group of two to five members you will be qualified for a Saver Pass, which gives you a discounted group rate.
•    If you are a senior (over the age of 65) you will be able to receive a Senior Pass, making your rail pass cheaper than the Standard price.
•    If you are traveling with children under the age of 5 they will get free admission on most Eurail trains.

A Hungary rail pass can be an exciting pass to great adventures on a European vacation and it is an exhilarating experience for all travelers.
